Media Advisory - Ingersoll school celebrates alumnus Jeremy Hansen’s upcoming mission around the moon
Media Advisory
The Thames Valley District School Board and Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute (IDCI) are proud to celebrate former student Jeremy Hansen, who will soon make history on NASA’s Artemis II mission around the moon.
Hansen’s success has inspired excitement and new learning across the IDCI school community. IDCI’s Artemis Explorers Club includes 15 students whose goal is to celebrate Hansen and help others learn about the Artemis mission.
In 2023, the club coordinated a special “Moon Fever” photo tribute. All IDCI students gathered on the football field to form the shape of a moon for the photo. The school prepared a framed poster of the picture, along with an IDCI keychain and smaller prints, and sent them to Hansen. IDCI hopes he might choose to take the photo with him on the Artemis II mission, carrying a piece of his hometown into space.
More recently, the Explorers held a live stream event for over 100 students. IDCI students watched the Canadian Space Agency host Jeremy Hansen, and the astronaut answered a question from the school.
Several displays about Hansen have also be seen throughout the school including a carefully crafted Lego replica of the Artemis Launch System. As the Artemis mission approaches, IDCI and the Explorers Club are planning a launch countdown, daily activities during the mission, a “Return to Earth” celebration and long-term projects honouring the Hansen.
